    বাল্যবিবাহ ছিলো নাঈমার ঘর ছাড়ার কারন…

    নাঈমা, এক অল্পবয়সী মেয়ে, যার মুখে ছিল অগণিত কষ্টের ছাপ। কামলাপুর রেলওয়ে স্টেশনের যাত্রীদের  ব্যস্ততা  আর  কুলিদের কোলাহলের মধ্যে একা বসে অতীতের স্মৃতিচারন করছিলো ।

     তার চোখের জ্বলজ্বলে অশ্রু, যেন মনের মধ্যে জমে থাকা এক পৃথিবী ভরী কষ্টের আড়াল।

    নিজের ইচ্ছের বিরুদ্ধে জোর করে বাল্যবিবাহে বাধ্য করার জন্য নাঈমার মা নাঈমাকে মানসিক ভাবে চাপ প্রয়োগ করতে থাকে। কখনো স্কুলে যাওয়া বন্ধ করে দেয়া  কখনো রুমে  আটকে রেখে শাস্তি দেয়া; কিছুই বাদ থাকতো না নাঈমার জন্য।  পরিবার ও বাড়ি; সবকিছুই নাঈমার জন্য ছিল এক ধরনের আতঙ্কের মতো।  

     অবশেষে বাধ্য হয়ে সেই জীবন থেকে  মুক্তি পেতে বাড়ি ছেড়ে পালিয়ে যায় নাঈমা। কিন্তু পথে জীবন ছিল কঠিন, আর অপরিচিত মানুষদের ভিড়ে মাসুদা হয়ে পড়ে আরও নিঃসঙ্গ।

    আপন ফাউন্ডেশনের একজন সোশ্যাল মোবিলাইজার সেই স্টেশনে নাঈমাকে দেখতে পান। মলিন অবস্থা দেখে আগ্রহী হয়ে নাঈমার সাথে কথা বলতে শুরু করে। জানতে চায় স্কুলের সময়ে তার স্টেশনে বসে থাকার কারন। নাঈমা প্রথমে একটু সংকোচিত হলেও, ধীরে ধীরে তার মুখ খুলতে শুরু করে। সে বলতে থাকে কীভাবে তার জীবনে সবকিছু জোর করে পরিবর্তন করা হয়েছিল, এবং তার স্বাধীনতার স্বপ্ন কীভাবে ধীরে ধীরে চাপের কাছে হারিয়ে যাচ্ছিল। সে বলেছিল, “আমি যে জীবন চেয়েছিলাম, সেই জীবন পাওয়ার চেষ্টা করতে গিয়ে বারবার আমাকে বাধা দেওয়া হয়েছে।”

    তার পাশে বসে বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণভাবে কথা বলতে শুরু করে। ধীরে ধীরে নাঈমা তার জীবনের গল্প বলতে শুরু করেন—কীভাবে সে নিজের স্বাধীনতার জন্য লড়াই করেছে, অথচ পরিবারে তা কখনোই স্বীকৃতি পায়নি। তার কষ্টের কথা শুনে, মোবিলাইজার তার পাশে দাঁড়ানোর সিদ্ধান্ত নেন এবং তার জন্য একটি নিরাপদ পথ খুঁজে বের করার প্রতিশ্রুতি দেন।

    এরপর, সোশ্যাল মোবিলাইজার নাঈমার বাবা ও কাজিনদের সাথে যোগাযোগ করেন। শিশুবিবাহের কুফল এবং এর অন্ধকার দিকগুলো তাদের সামনে তুলে ধরেন। এই আলোচনার মাধ্যমে, তারা বুঝতে পারে কেমন অন্যায়ের মুখোমুখি হয়েছে নাঈমা, এবং কেমন করে এই বিয়ে তার জীবনের আনন্দ কেড়ে নিয়েছে। ধীরে ধীরে নাঈমার পরিবারের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি বদলাতে শুরু করে। তারা অনুভব করে যে নাঈমার সিদ্ধান্ত ছিল সাহসী, আর তার জীবন নিয়ে তাকে সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার স্বাধীনতা দেওয়া উচিত ছিল।

    নাঈমার বাবা ও কাজিন সোশ্যাল মবিলাইজার,  মুসলিম চ্যারিটি এবং আপন ফাউন্ডেশনের প্রতি গভীর কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করেন এবং নাঈমাকে বাড়ি ফিরিয়ে নেওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন। তারা প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয়, এবার থেকে তার স্বাধীনতাকে সম্মান করবে এবং তার ইচ্ছা অনুযায়ী তাকে নিজের পথ বেছে নেওয়ার সুযোগ দেবে।

    নাঈমার এই ঘরে ফেরা ছিল অশ্রু এবং অনুভূতির মিলন, একটি পরিবর্তনের গল্প। তার সাহস এবং আপন ফাউন্ডেশন ও মুসলিম চ্যারিটির সহযোগিতায়, নাঈমা শুধু তার পরিবার নয়, নিজের জীবনের স্বাধীনতাও ফিরে পেল।এই গল্পটি একটি উজ্জ্বল দৃষ্টান্ত হয়ে উঠল, যা দেখিয়ে দিল—সহানুভূতি, বোঝাপড়া আর সমর্থনের মাধ্যমে জীবন নতুন করে শুরু করা সম্ভব।

    এটি কেবল একটি শিশুকে ফিরিয়ে দেওয়ার গল্প নয়, বরং একটি পরিবারকে পুনরায় একত্রিত করার এবং একটি শিশুকে সম্ভাবনার নতুন জীবন উপহার দেওয়ার উদাহরণ। সমাজের জন্য এই ধরনের উদ্যোগ একটি আলো, যা শিশুদের নিরাপদ ভবিষ্যতের আশ্বাস দেয়।

    মধ্যাহ্ন ভোজের পর যখনই অফিসের সবাই রিল্যাক্স এ ডেস্কে ফিরে যাচ্ছে; তখনই হঠাৎ রেসকিউ নম্বরের ফোন বেজে উঠলো। ” বিমান বন্দর রেলওয়ে থানা থেকে বলছি; আপন ফাউন্ডেশন?” সোশ্যাল মবিলাইজারদের একজন ফোন ধরে “হ্যা” বলতেই সাথে সাথে বলা হলো; দ্রুত থানায় চলে আসুন; নাম পরিচয়হীন দু’জন মেয়ে কে খুজে পেয়েছি; দ্রুত এসে ওদেরকে নিয়ে যান !

    সাথে সাথেই জিডি লেখার ফর্ম, শিশু হস্তান্তর ফর্ম, আইডি কার্ড সহ নানাবিধ প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্র নিয়ে ঢাকা বিমানবন্দর রেলওয়ে থানার উদ্দেশ্যে। থানায় গিয়ে সোশাল মবিলাইজাররা দেখলো; সাইমা (ছদ্মনাম) ও নাইমা (ছদ্মনাম) চুপচাপ বসে আছে। প্রাথমিক কথা বলে জানা গেলো; ওরা খালাতো বোন। প্রাথমিক কাজ শেষ করে দুইজনকে নিয়ে আসা হলো আপন ফাউন্ডেশন এর শেল্টারে। সারা দিন বাহিরে থাকায় তাদের কাপড় ধুলামলিন, চোখে মুখে ক্লান্তি, মায়াভরা মুখ দেখলেই বোঝা যায় খুব আতংক, ভয় ও কষ্টে তাদের দিনটি কেটেছে। শেল্টারে আসা মাত্রই ফ্রেশ হয়ে খেয়ে পোশাক পরিবতর্ন করে অথই ঘুমে তলিয়ে গেলো বোনদুটি।


    পরদিন সকালে ঘুম থেকে উঠতেই একটু ধাতস্থ হলো দুই বোন। হাউজ সিসটারের সাথে নাস্তা করে শুরু হলো নতুন বসবাসের শেল্টারটি ঘুরে দেখা। এরপর শুরু হলো গল্প। গল্পের ছলে জানা গেলো বাড়ি থেকে পালিয়ে আসা, এক রাত স্টেশনে থাকা এবং কন্যাশিশুর প্রতি সমাজের চাহুনীর গল্প।


    সাইমা ও নাইমা একান্নবর্তী পরিবারের সন্তান। ওদের সাইমা থাকে তার মা-বাবা ও আরো ২ ভাই সহ এক পরিবারে। অপরদিকে নাইমা এর মা থাকে ঢাকায়। তিনি গার্মেন্টেসে চাকরী করেন। খালার সাথে থাকে নাইমা। দুইজনই নিকটবর্তী স্কুলে পড়াশুনা করে।
    সাইমার বড়ো ভাই আছে যে বাবার সাথে মাঠের কাজ করে। আর ছোটো ভাইটা একদমই ছোটো। মাত্র দেড় বছর বয়স। পরিবারে সায়মার দায়িত্বই হলো ছোটো ভাইটাকে দেখা। অভাবের সংসারে মা কাজ করে অন্য বাসায়। ফলে পড়াশোনা তো হয়-ই না; উল্টো কখনো কখনো ছোটো ভাই কান্নাকাটি করলে সেটার খেসারত দিতে হয় সাইমাকে। বাবা, ভাই ও মা- তিনজন ই সাইমার উপর খড়গহস্ত হয়ে যেতেন। মাঝে মাঝে সেটা এমন পরযায়ে চলে যেতো যা ছিলো অসহনীয়।

    ভাই যখন সুযোগ পেতো তখনই মার-ধোর করতো। এদিকে ছোটো ভাই কান্না করলেই মা চলে আসতেন অপরাধের শাস্তি দিতে। কখনো লাকড়ি, কখনো খুন্তি বা কখনো হাতের কাছে যা পেতেন; তাই হয়ে যেতো শাস্তি দেবার মাধ্যম। এমনকি সাইমার শেষ আশ্রয়স্থল তার বাবার থেকেও মিলতো না কোনো সহযোগীতা। বাবা সন্ধ্যায় বাড়ি ফেরার পর বাবার কান ভারি করতো মা ও ভাই। ফলে বাবার হাতের চড় ও থাপ্পড় ছিলো অবধারিত। দিনে দিনে নিজের পড়াশোনা থেকে দূরে সরে যেতে থাকে সাইমা তার নিজেকে আবিস্কার করে এই ঘরের এক অবাঞ্চিত ব্যক্তি হিসেবে যার উপর সবাই সবার ক্ষোভ মিটাবে। তাই সে মনে মনে সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় এই বাসা থেকে বের হয়ে যাবে।


    নাইমা এর গল্পও খুব সাইমা থেকে ব্যতিক্রম নয়। মা না থাকা এক মেয়ের জন্য নিজের ঘর-ও যে নিরাপদ নয় সে গল্পই আরেকবার শোনা হলো নাইমার কাছ থেকে।
    এই ফাকে হাউজ ব্রাদাররা কাজে লেগে গেলো ওদের তথ্য মোতাবেক ইউনিয়ন প্রতিনিধিদের সাথে যোগাযোগ করতে, বাবা-মা এর সাথে কথা বলতে। দিনের শেষে সাইমা ও নাইমা উভয়ের বাবা-মা ই এলেন আপন ফাউন্ডেশন এর অফিসে। দুইদিন ঘরে না থাকায় তারা বুঝতে পেরেছেন তাদের মেয়ে ঘরের কাজের জন্যই নয়; তাদের রক্তও। কন্যা শোক সহ্য করতে পারেন নি সাইমার বাবা ও নাইমার মা। তারা আপন ফাউন্ডেশন অফিসে এসেও তাদের কান্না নিবারন করতে পারেন নি।


    শিশু হস্তান্তরের সময় দুজনের বাবা – মা ই প্রতিজ্ঞা করলেন তারা এবার মেয়েদের যথাযথ সন্মান দেবেন দেবেন যথাযথ মরযাদা। কৃতজ্ঞতা স্বীকার করলেন আপন ফাউন্ডেশন এর; তাদেরকে তাদের মেয়ে খুজে হস্তান্তর করার জন্য।


    আপন ফাউন্ডেশন এর প্রজেক্ট সমূহের মাঝে অন্যতম প্রজেক্ট হচ্ছে পথশিশু, এতিম বা হারিয়ে যাওয়া শিশুদের পুনর্বাসন করা। ২০১৭ সালে থেকে ডোনার সংস্থার সহায়তায় এ পরযন্ত প্রায় ১৪০০ এর বেশী শিশুকে তার পরিবারের কাছে ফেরত দিয়েছে অথবা সেইফ হোমে পুনর্বাসন করেছে।

The foundation’s rescuer, understanding the delicate nature of the situation, assured him that he was not alone. They approached his family with sensitivity, explaining the support available to them, emphasizing the foundation’s commitment to fostering understanding and healing.

    Shafin’s reunion with his family marked the beginning of a new chapter—a chance for communication, growth, and understanding.     From Chapainawabganj to Dhaka; A New Dawn for Sumaiya

    At just twelve years old, Sumaiya Khatun had become the caretaker of her own shattered life. She would often skip school, wandering the alleys in search of scraps of food to quell her gnawing hunger. In the darkest corners of her mind, a flicker of hope urged to shine, a hope that whispered of freedom.

    Sumaiya’s world had become a suffocating cage. Each day began with the clamor of her father’s angry shouts and the hollow laughter of her stepmother, whose eyes were clouded by the haze of addiction. They were supposed to be her family, but instead, they were the architects of her nightmares. As the sun rose over the dusty streets of their neighborhood, it cast long shadows over her heart—a heart that yearned for love, safety, and a chance to dream.

    One night, Sumaiya made the hardest decision of her young life. She slipped out of the house, her heart pounding in her chest. With only the clothes on her back and a small bag of dreams, she headed to the railway station of Chapainawabganj, believing that somewhere out there, a better life awaited her.

    Though she managed to reach Dhaka railway station somehow, after that she encountered reality. The station was a chaotic swirl of humanity, and for a moment, Sumaiya felt lost among the throngs of strangers. As she sat on a cold bench, exhaustion overwhelmed her, and tears streamed down her cheeks. It was then that a gentle voice broke through her despair. “Are you okay, little one?” It was, fortunately, a guy, eyes filled with compassion from APON Foundation rescue team.

    Sumaiya hesitated at first, but then the empathetic words of that guy made her melt down. She poured out her story, the pain, the fear, the longing for a better life. The guy listened intently, his heart aching for the girl. With a reassuring smile, he extended his hand. “You don’t have to be alone anymore. We can help you.”

    Sumaiya’s journey to safety began that day. She was taken to APON’s transitional shelter for street children, a place filled with laughter and light. At first, it felt surreal; walls painted in cheerful colors, the smell of home cooked meals wafting through the air, and other children like her, sharing stories and dreams. For the first time, she experienced kindness, nurturing, and the slow but steady healing of her wounded spirit.

    APON Foundation’s dedicated team members contacted her family to send her back to home, but Sumaiya’s father refused to take her back. Then we decided to refer her in “Association For Correction and Social Reclamation Center.” Sumaiya began to reclaim her identity. She enrolled in school, her eager mind absorbing knowledge like a parched land drinking in the rain. The staff at the safe home encouraged her, nurturing her passions. She discovered a love for art, painting her emotions onto canvas, transforming her pain into vibrant colors.

    With each passing day, the darkness that once consumed her began to fade, Sumaiya started to dream again. Her journey was far from over, but now she walked it with a newfound strength, surrounded by a family of support. Sumaiya learned that while her past was a part of her, it did not define her. Instead, it fueled her determination to create a brighter tomorrow, one brushstroke at a time.

    A Story of Hope: The Journey of ”Jibon”

    In the bustling city of Dhaka, a 12-year-old boy named Jibon found himself wandering the Railway Station, searching tirelessly for his parents. Despite his young age, he had already endured the heartache of running away from home multiple times, driven by a struggle with mental instability. Jibon’s journey that day was a reflection of his longing for love and belonging.

    It was during one of these uncertain moments that the compassionate social mobilizers of the APON Foundation discovered him. Their dedicated team, committed to uplifting the lives of vulnerable children, spotted Jibon walking aimlessly, his small frame filled with hope yet burdened by despair. Recognizing the signs of distress, they gently approached him, offering reassurance and kindness.

    Jibon was welcomed into the APON Foundation‘s shelter, part of their “Transitional Shelter for Street Children” project, generously supported by ”Muslim Charity”, UK. This initiative aims to rescue children like Jibon from precarious situations and provide them with a safe haven. The APON Foundation, a government-approved non-profit organization, has dedicated itself to improving the lives of economically and socially deprived individuals, nurturing a vision of an egalitarian society where every child can access basic education, healthcare, and opportunities for empowerment.

    As the team contacted Jibon’s father, a sense of relief washed over the child. Soon, his uncle arrived to take him home, a journey made possible by the compassionate efforts of the APON Foundation. Here, Jibon was not just rescued; he was given a chance to heal and reconnect with his family.

    Since its inception in January 2017, the APON Foundation has operated the “Thikana Shelter,” a sanctuary for street-connected children in Dhaka. The project’s mission is to liberate destitute street children from their harsh realities and reintegrate them into safe and nurturing environments. Through persistent efforts, the foundation has successfully rescued 1,369 children, including 1,247 boys and 122 girls, reuniting 803 with their families and referring 121 to permanent residential shelters by June 2024.

    The foundation’s rescue team is relentless in their mission, visiting vulnerable areas like Sadarghat Launch Terminal, Kamalapur, Airport, and Tongi Railway Station. They work closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of the children. Each rescue begins with a connection to the local Thana, documenting the child’s story through a general diary entry. Once a child is brought to the shelter, they are welcomed with open arms—given new clothes, a chance to freshen up, and most importantly, the emotional support they desperately need.

    Counseling sessions conducted by expert officials allow the team to gather vital information about each child’s family, working tirelessly toward reunification. With every rescued child, the APON Foundation aims not just to offer shelter, but to secure a brighter future filled with hope, love, and opportunities.

    In Jibon’s case, his story became a testament to the transformative power of compassion and community support. His journey from the streets to the warmth of a family home illustrates the profound impact that organizations like the APON Foundation have in building a better future for children in need. Through their unwavering dedication, they continue to strive for a vision where every child can live free from fear and want—a vision of a “Street Children Free Bangladesh.”

    As the sun set over Dhaka, the light of hope shone brightly for Jibon and countless others like him, reminding us all of the potential for change that lies within each act of kindness.
